Wakefield Market another success

The second attempt at hosting the Wakefield Market was as successful as the first go around as 11 vendors and several stores welcomed customers from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on July 21.

The event was held on Main Street for the first time to allow for social distancing between the vendors who set up everything from corn, to iron work, to cosmetic items...the list of products available was extensive.

Many stores also offered in-store specials to attract buyers.

“I thought the Market went great,” said event coordinator and Wakefield Economic Director, Megan Weaver. “It was great to see families out supporting our vendors and downtown businesses.”

Weaver and company offered “bingo” cards to customers that were to be stamped by the various businesses and vendors when the buyers presented them.

“We offered $50 in Wakefield Dollars in a random drawing,” she said. “To be eligible, the cardholders had to have his-her card completed.”

Rylie Ekberg was the winner of the drawing.

The Senior Center had its first “outing” of function since the COVID-19 pandemic hit last spring by holding a bake sale.

“Our bake sale went fantastic,” Senior Center Manager, Sherry Oswald said. “We had four tables full of baked goods and had very little left over.”

The fudge from the bake sale was reportedly “to die for”.

“We just really want to thank everyone who donated goods for the sale,” Oswald said. “And we especially want to thank all of the people who supported our sale - it was heartwarming and very successful.”

Weaver is already making plans for the next Market, scheduled for this fall.

“We’re shooting for September 2 for the next Market,” Weaver said. “And we’ll leave it on Main Street like this one - it was convenient for everyone and went over very, very well.”
