The 23rd annual Wahoo Area Kiwanis All-Star Baseball game was held this past Saturday, August 9th at historic Sam Crawford field in Wahoo, NE.
American Legion baseball seniors in Classes B & C who have exhausted playing eligibility from around the state were nominated and selected to play in the 7-inning all-star game.
Four players from the Elkhorn Valley baseball league were selected to the North squad: Wyatt Shabram & Connor Thomson (Tri-County), Eleazar Gonzalez (O'Neill), and Grant Bruggeman (Stanton). This year's game was a thriller won by the North with a final score of 11-10!
The South was first on the board with 3 runs in the first inning.
North started off slow but then erupted in the 3rd inning with 7 runs sparked by a bases loaded infield single by Connor Thomson. Thomson & Grant Bruggeman were part of the scoring spree.
The South kept the score close and actually took the lead back at one point.
In the top of the 7th inning, the North fought back with the Ord boys scoring two runs to tie the game.
Then, Wyatt Shabram, after having pitched the 6th inning, drawing a walk himself in the top of the 7th, and after stealing 2nd base & 3rd base, scored what would prove to be the winning run.
Eleazar Gonzalez would enter to pitch the bottom of the 7th inning holding the South scoreless to save the game, secure the win 11-10, and earn game MVP honors.
