The Crofton Cross Country team raced at the Augustana Twilight in Sioux Falls on Friday, Sep. 5, with most of the girls and boys breaking personal records.

Freshman Avery Arens had the highest finish, placing 5th in her first high school race.

A. Arens had a breakout run, placing 5th with a time of 17:06. “I feel that we all did really well at Augustana resulting in most of the team getting a PR. I feel pretty good on the run, there were so many talented girls there that pushed each of us to do our best at the meet.”

Other results include: sophomore Hudsyn Stout with a PR of 21:12; fresh man Claire Marsh ran a time of 21:39; junior Madelyn Buschkamp finished in 22:11; sophomore Keisha Strunk clocked a PR of 22:16; and junior Brooklyn Guenther crossed the finish line at 23:56.

The girls JV made a statement in the 4k with senior Emily Guenther earning a PR of 20:43. Sophomore Bethany Arens also hit a PR at 20:57. A new addition to the team, freshman Ashlyn Loecker, finished with a time of 23:03.

The boys varsity cross country team was led by sophomore Kaden Arens, with a massive PR of 17:26. Junior Darin Babcock had another big PR, cutting off 49.37 seconds with a time of 19.19. Sophomore Corbin Bernt also had a PR with a time of 21:19.

The lone boys JV runner was sophomore Fred Dennis; he had a PR of 19:19 which was 50 seconds faster.

Senior Charles Steffen who didn’t run due to injury was very excited to see how his teammates did. “Overall the meet was filled with PRs and great attitudes. I'm excited to see what happens throughout the season.”
