The Crofton Play Production team is proud to announce this year's one-act play is “Can I Ask You a Question?”, a bold and thought-provoking new play written by local playwright and Crofton Community High School educator, Miss Shiann Hansen.

The play will debut this fall and feature a cast and crew of 42 talented high school students, bringing fresh energy and diverse voices to the stage.

Directed by Holly Wortmann, Mrs. Nancy Schieffer, and Miss Shiann Hansen, this original piece dives into the complexities of humanity. The story takes place in a retro-futuristic world where Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now in the form of robots called BAQs, and you have to pay for each question you ask.

"It's exciting for us to put together a show that has never been seen before, "says Holly Wortmann, who is just starting her fifth year as head one-act coach. "Miss Hansen's play is raw, honest, and full of heart-- and working with these incredible young students is inspiring. Each character is unique and there's electricity in the old Crofton Elementary gym every time we rehearse. We can't wait to share it with our community."

“This play would not even exist if Holly hadn't encouraged me to write a play,” Hansen said. “Getting to see something that I've written get brought to life may truly be one of my greatest accomplishments to date. I'm so thankful to Holly, Mrs. Schieffer, and the One Act team for going along with my whims. I'm beyond excited for this year and just know that good things are going to happen this season! And I'm just honored to be part of the team.”

“I’m pretty excited for this play since it relates to a pretty relevant subject,” said senior Jackson Lynde. “I think we’ll have a very successful season, and I’m excited to see where this season takes the team.”

A dinner theatre fundraiser is being planned for Sunday, November 23, at 5 p.m. with a meal and community performance. Free will donations will be accepted at the door.
