Crofton Senior Center hosts visitors from Norfolk Veterans Home

By: Cheri Leader - Center Volunteer

The Senior Center was pleased to welcome guests of honor from the Norfolk Veterans Home on Thursday, October 9th for the evening meal.

The dining room was packed (with a few overflow tables filled in the Gathering Room!) Crofton’s very own Piano Man, Kim Sawatzke provided dinner music. Thank you to all who stepped in to help serve the meal and to the Veterans for your service.

October is Health Literacy Awareness Month. The Senior Center has several health-focused events (not to mention the delicious and nutritious meals served daily) and everyone is invited to participate.

Beginning Tuesday, October 21st (and every Tuesday until December 8th) Fran Tramp will meet with individuals or couples, by appointment, to discuss SHIP. The SHIP program, or State Health Insurance Assistance Program, provides free, unbiased, and personalized counseling to help seniors understand and navigate Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medigap, and Medicaid benefits. Staffed by trained volunteers and professionals, these state-based programs offer one-on-one assistance. Call the Senior Center at 402-388-2365 to schedule an appointment with Fran. (½ hour appointments per individual and a 1-hour appointment for couples)

Thursday, October 23rd is an opportunity to participate in “Health and Wellness Night” beginning at 5:00 pm and throughout the evening meal. The USD nursing students will provide FREE health screenings and a flu shot clinic will also be part of the health event. Those wishing to receive a flu vaccination must fill out a form at the Crofton Senior Center in order to have an exact count for the flu vaccinations. Stop at the Center any time to complete the form.

Exercise has abundant physical and mental health benefits. As part of Health Awareness month, a special fitness class will be offered on Monday, October 27th at 1:00 pm. This is a perfect opportunity for those (men and women) who want to try an exercise class offered at the Senior Center for FREE – no expensive gym memberships or equipment. All ages and fitness levels are welcome. The USD nursing students will be guest participants, as well.

The Senior Center is excited about the Tour of Tables Fall Fundraising Event being planned for Saturday, October 25, 2025 at the St. Rose Parish Hall.

Get ready for a day of dazzling design and delightful company. This unique event is more than just a meal; it's an enchanting showcase of creativity, community spirit, and heartfelt generosity.

Guests will embark on a visual "tour" through the hall filled with tables, each a miniature world of its own, meticulously decorated and hosted by a volunteer or group from the community. Themes range from elegant and whimsical to clever and quirky, with past years featuring everything from a "Night at the Prom” to a serene "Evening in Paris” as well as “Fun Down on the Farm”. The artistry and imagination on display are a testament to the dedication of our table hostesses.

Doors open at 10:00 am and the table guests and hostesses, as well as the general public are invited to wander from table to table taking in the creativity on display.

Guests will enjoy a delicious luncheon with door prizes awarded throughout the day, but much more than the meal and beyond the beautiful décor, the Tour of Tables is a crucial fundraiser for The Crofton Senior Center. Special features of the event include a Chinese Auction and a Grand Auction with fabulous items such as a Husker Basket, Pampered chef items, a handmade quilt, Fall décor, and numerous items donated by local businesses and community members.

For more information, to donate items for the auction, or to sign-up to decorate a table (or tables) and register guests for the Tour of Tables, call the Crofton Senior Center at (402) 388-2365 Don't miss your chance to be part of this highly anticipated community tradition.

Mark your calendars and prepare to be inspired. Join the festivities at the Tour of Tables for a day of food, fellowship, and spectacular table-scapes!
