Crofton Dam Race organizers Heidi Marsh and Johnnie Ostermeyer.

The 9th annual Crofton Dam Race was held on July 25 with 351 registrations by race day, making it the second-best year for the race in its 9th year of competition.

The Dam Race, with it’s core and host of volunteers, assisted 179 individual triathlon athletes, 36 teams, 37 half marathoners, and 21 solo bikers.

Lead Organizer Heidi Marsh explained how important those volunteers were during the race. The hospitality of Crofton was very clear during the race. From the fire department, to the Park Service workers, to the local volunteers, everyone chipped in an made the event great, even with the challenge of the high temperatures, which topped out at 102 degrees on most tracking sites, but was a share hotter on the asphalt finish line.

Organizers, volunteers, and riders managed the heat with a race start of 7 a.m., and the race was done by noon to avoid most of the scorching heat.
