The Tri County Northeast Wolfpack track athletes came home with five top finishes after competing in the Homer Invitational Track Meet on April 14.
Overall, the boys’ team finished fourth with a team score of 422 and the girls placed fifth with a team score of 383.5. Dakota Valley was the top team in the field of nine boys’ teams with a score of 634, while Ponca topped the girls’ field of nine with a team score of 825.
“There were some very pleasant surprises from the teams today. Both teams were short-handed and still performed very well,” said TCNE track Coach Dave Uldrich. “We held some athletes back on events due to the heat and not being overly acclimated to it.”
The boys were led by Joe Grone with a first place in the Long Jump. He covered an impressive 19 feet, 1 inch to earn his gold. Bryan Isom garnered the Wolfpack’s other solo gold with his win in the 300-meter Hurdles with a time of 47.14 seconds.
The team of Brayden McCorkindale, Grone, Hudson Morgan and Caidan Gregg won first place in the 4x100-meter Relay with a time of 48.50 seconds. It was McCorkindale, Gregg, Grone and Morgan getting the gold in the 800-meter Medley Relay with a time of 1 minute, 46.50 seconds.
Bre Millard earned the girls’ team’s single gold for the meet. She had the top time in the 200-meter Dash with a time of 27.53 seconds. Millard also had the second best time in the 300 Hurdles with a time of 54.28.
Silvers were earned by two members of the boys’ team. Gregg was second in the Triple Jump, covering 38 feet, 11 inches and Morgan placed second in the 110-meter Hurdles with a time of 17.41.
Alex Kneifl, Sean Lawrence, Aidan Isom and Alex Snyder were the third-place team in the Distance Medley with a time of 15:28.10. While, for the girls, Shantel Miller earned a bronze for her performance in the 300 Hurdles with a time of 55.98.
Earning fourth place finishes were: Hudson Morgan with a High Jump of 5 feet, 4 inches; Brianna Bousquet in the 1,600-meter Race with a time of 6:35.32; Grone in the 200 Dash with a time of 24.22; Millard in the 100 Dash with a time of 13.37; Elizabeth Sattler, Katie Utech, Samantha Rastede and Makayla Horak in the Distance Medley with a time of 19:14.50; Bre Millard, Shantel Millard, Bousquet and Rastede 4x400-meter Relay with a time of 5:01.93; and Devin Reinart, Kneifl, Snyder and Bryan Isom in the 4x400 Relay with a time of 4:29.91.
Two Wolfpack athletes came in fifth place. Bousquet earned hers in the 800-meter Race with a time of 2:55.31, while Bryan Isom placed fifth in the 110 Hurdles with w time of 20.28.
Three jumpers had sixth place performances. Miller went 13 feet, 7 ½ inches in the Long Jump, Reinert went 16 feet, 1 inch in the Long Jump and Lawrence covered 30 feet, 6 ½ inches in the Triple Jump.
The Wolfpack travel to Ponca on Tuesday, April 25, to compete in a multi-school event beginning at 3 p.m. The teams will continue to work daily at improving and looking forward to see where the season is going to take them, said the coach.
“Next week will be important for the teams to continue to build on what they have started,” Uldrich said. “The mid-point of the season is nearing, and we are still definitely a work in process.”
