Post 81’s juniors and seniors took to the field in the Ralph Bishop League Tournament in Battle Creek on Sunday, June 25th. The juniors were originally scheduled to play in Hartington but weather that plagued the Mid Summer Classic also forced a location change for Post 81.
The fourth seeded Post 81 juniors took on Ponca early in the afternoon having a run in the fourth, but they were unable to overcome a Ponca lead from the third and fourth. Ponca was up 2 after the third inning, and they added another seven in a big inning in the fourth.
Wakefield’s runs came from Jacob Borg, Benny Palma, Jacob Birkley, Jesse Lundahl and Mason Lamprecht all with one, and two from Ruben Vega.
Mason Lamprecht handled the pitching with nine strikeouts.
The seniors faced top seeded Battle Creek in an evening game that looked to be going Post 81’s way early when Post 81 managed to get some men on base, followed by Cade Johnson sprinting for home well ahead of the throw.  In a very close call the plate umpire called him out costing Post 81 an early lead.
Battle Creek posted two runs in the third, one in the fourth and three in sixth. Wakefield’s lone run came from Jon Birkley in the sixth, with the game ending 7-1.
Jesse Lundahl served the team pitching and had eight strikeouts to his card, with Ryan Anderson, Eliseo Sarmiento, and Jonathan Birkley coming in after he hit the pitch count.
