Wakefield Community Schools is welcoming a new addition to the administration team. Darren Sindelar, previously of Pierce Public Schools, will serve as the new elementary principal.
Sindelar will be filling the position after Jerad Wulf. The transition was made official by the school board in March.
Sindelar has been in education for 29 years: 22 as an elementary teacher and 7 years as an activities director. He formerly worked at Pierce Public Schools as a teacher and coach. He was directly involved with the Blue Jay sports programs for 25 years, acting as the head girls’ basketball coach since 2006 and athletic director since 2016. During his time, he won three state titles in 2013, 2014, 2015, and a third-place finish in 2016. Sindelar decided to pursue a principal position to help teachers reach their potential so they can be the best teachers for students. Hopefully, from my experiences, I can give them positive guidance that will help our students grow, said Sindelar.
Principal candidates went through three rounds of interviews by differing groups and were given a tour of the school. Sindelar described the process as both a positive experience and a whirlwind. Sindelar’s wife will teach high school English. He expressed excitement that this will be the first time the pair is in the same school district.
“I am looking forward to all the new challenges of being an elementary principal. Change can be stressful, but I am excited to start this new career path,” said Sindelar. “Everyone I have met so far has been great, and I am excited about the future in Wakefield.”
