Lady Trojans celebrating beating G.A.C.C.

The Wakefield Lady Trojan Volleyball team opened strong this season, and are currently sitting at 4-3 headed into their eighth regular game of the season on Sept. 5.

The team will host Ponca and Lyons-Decatur Northeast for their next two games on Sept. 7 as part of a tournament that will stretch into the weekend against Lutheran High Northeast, Cedar Catholic, Pierce and Laurel.
Since last report, the Lady Trojans participated in the NEN Tournament at Wisner-Pilger and Pender, with games going their way for the majority of the tournament. Five games gave the Lady Trojans a 3-2 spread overall.
The Wakefield girls played against Guardian Angels Central Catholic and Tekamah-Herman on August 31 in the tournament, and then had three games on September 2 against North Bend Central, Archbishop Bergan and Oakland-Craig.
The Lady Trojans took a 2-0 win over GACC, a 2-0 win over Tekamah-Herman, then struggled a bit on Saturday, taking a 0-2 loss to North Bend Central and 1-2 loss to Archbishop-Bergan, before bouncing back against Oakland-Craig for a 2-0 win to finish out the tournament.
Vs. Tekamah-Herman
A starter 2-0 game against Tekamah-Herman’s Tigers gave the Wakefield girls a good boost for the first day of competition.
The Lady Trojans went a quick 2-0 against their first-round foes, a close 26-24 in the first set and putting the Tigers away 25-8 in the second.
Daveigh Munter-McAfee had eight kills to lead her team in attacks. She also marked a perfect score percentage. Alli Brown had five kills, Boston Brown had four, Isabelle Andrade had two and Sierra Kaufman and Jordan Metzler closed out the category with one each.
Sierra Kaufman put up the teams main blocks with three total. Digs were led by Munter-McAfee with 10 total. Metzler had six, Katie Borg had four and Sierra Kaufman had one.

Vs. GACC
The girls second ame of tournament was against the Bluejays and took two sets, 25-20 and 25-21 for their first win of the weekend.
Kills were led by Daveigh Munter-McAfee with 10 total, as well as one ace serve.
Alli Brown had seven kills and two aces, Isabelle Andrade, Sierra Kaufman and Boston Brown each posted three kills and Jordan Metzler rounded out the teams direct scores with two kills.
Andrade and Metzler both published a 100% serving mark as well.
Defensively, blocks were led by Sierra Kaufman, who also had three digs. Katie Borg led the digs category with 10. Jordan Metzler had two blocks, Isabelle Andrade and Daveigh Munter-McAfee each were credited with one.
Andrade had six digs, Munter-McAfee had five, Brown also posted three, and Metzler and Brown chipped in some as well.
Vs. Oakland-Craig
The Lady Trojans started out their Saturday portion of the tournament with a win over Oakland-Craig’s Lady Knights, 2-0.
The sets were even, 25-17 in both, to give the Wakefield girls the win.
Alli Brown was credited with 10 points from her three ace serves and eight kills.
Daveigh Munter-McAfee had five points, Isabelle Andrade and Katie Borg each had four, Sierra Kaufman and Jordan Metzler each had three points.
Katie Borg posted nine digs, and Isabelle Andrade and Daveigh Munter-McAfee each marked six. Jordan Metzler had four, Alli Brown and Sierra Kaufman each had two, and Boston Brown had one.
Vs. Archbishop Bergan
In the team’s only three-set game, the Lady Trojans narrowly missed a win – falling 25-20 in the first, winning 25-23 in the second, and falling 25-21 in the third to take the 2-1 loss.
Points were an even split between Isabelle Andrade, Sierra Kaufman and Jordan Metzler, each credited with five. Alli Brown and Daveigh Munter-McAfee each had four and Katie Borg was credited with one.
Munter-McAfee led the team’s kills sheet with nine. Alli Brown marked eight, Jordan Metzler had five, Boston Brown recorded four and Isabelle Andrade and Sierra Kaufman each had one.
The girls struggled a bit more than normal in serving success, with the team’s best performance at 92.9 percent, but also had more aces, with four total – one each from Andrade, Borg, Brown and Kaufman.
Digs were led by Katie Borg with a big 21 for her team. Munter-McAfee had 17, Metzler marked 12, Andrade had 10, Brown had nine, Kaufman marked three and Boston Brown had one.
Vs. North Bend Central
The Lady Trojans ended the day with a 0-2 game against North Bend Central.
The first set was 25-18 to North Bend’s favor, and then 25-22 with the Lady Trojans nearly pushing the game to a third.
Munter-McAfee posted 10 kills and one ace serve. Alli Brown had seven kills, Sierra Kaufman had four, Boston Brown and Isabella Andrade each had three and Jordan Metzler had one.
Sierra Kaufman had a block for her team, and digs were posted by Katie Borg with 15, Munter-McAfee had 14, Andrade had 13, Metzler posted nine, Alli Brown marked four, Sierra Kaufman had three and Boston Brown had one.
