Daveigh Munter-McAfee

Wakefield began their week with a clean sweep on the road, finding triumph on the road over Hartington-Newcastle and Wausa on Tuesday, Sept. 26 to improve their record to 16-6.
The first game against the Wildcats of Hartington-Newcastle would prove to be a dog-fight. With Wakefield down 18-16 late in the first set, it was time for the Trojans to kick it in to high gear, which they were able to do after back-to-back service aces by Isabella Andrade gave them extra life. The Trojans were able to build off of that momentum to give them a hard-earned 26-24 win in set one.
While set two was still a tight contest, the Trojans gained some ground early, leaping out to a 13-7 lead. After a failed comeback by H-N, Wakefield was finally able to put the game on ice with a kill from Jordan Metzler to seal a 25-20 win in set two to complete the sweep.
Leading the way for the Trojans was the duo of Alli Brown and Daveigh Munter-McAfee, with ten and nine kills, respectively. Right behind the duo was Boston Brown with four, Metzler with two, and Sierra Kaufman and Gracyn Keagle with one each.
Alli Brown also found some immense success from the service line with three aces, followed by Andrade with two and Metzler with one.
Defensively it was Borg leading the charge with ten digs, followed by Alli Brown with six, Munter-McAfee with five, Metzler with four, Andrade with three, and Ashlyn Riewer and Sierra Kaufman with one each.
After their victory Wakefield would have a quick turnaround to face the Wausa Vikings in game two of the triangular. The Vikings would prove to be a difficult foe to conquer, battling Wakefield to the very end of both sets. But in the end, Wakefield was able to come out on top of the 7-6 Vikings by a score of 25-21 and 25-19.
The sweep over Wausa was a shared victory offensively for Wakefield, with Munter-McAfee achieving nine kills. Right on Munter-McAfee’s heels was Alli Brown with three, Boston Brown with two, and Metzler, Kauffman and Keagle with one apiece.
Munter-McAfee proved to be a force to be reckoned with defensively as well, leading the team with 13 digs. Borg followed closely behind with nine, Alli Brown racked up seven, Kaufman and Boston Brown earned two each, and Riewer and Andrade had one apiece.
Following the hard-earned sweeps, the Trojans went back on the road on Thursday, Sept. 29 for a matchup against a 12-6 Crofton squad.
The night began rough for the Trojans as they struggled to get off the bus. Losing set number one 25-17 before falling in set number two 25-15. Fortunately, the Trojans were able to wake up in set three, showcasing their talent on the way to a big seven-point victory. With their backs against the wall, the Trojans had to win three straight sets to take home the victory.
Unfortunately for Trojans fans, Crofton had other plans. Following the set three victory, Wakefield would go back and forth with Crofton continuously in set four, taking the set all the way to 30 points. But Crofton would prove to be too persistent and would take home set four by a score of 30-28, handing Wakefield the loss.
Offensively it was Alli Brown and Munter-McAfee leading the way with 20 and 16 kills, respectively. Followed by Metzler with three, Brown and Kaufman with two, and Keagle and Andrade with one each.
Alli Brown would be the only member of the team with an ace in the match, ending the evening with two.
Defensively, the Trojans threw a “block party,” with five members of the squad getting at least one block. Leading the team was the duo of Kaufman and Boston Brown, each with three. Followed by Keagle with two and Andrade and Munter-McAfee with one each.
Borg ended the night leading the squad in digs with 28 throughout the contest, followed closest by Munter-McAfee with 18, Andrade with 10, Metzler with nine, Brown with seven, Avila with five, Kaufman with four, and Boston Brown with three.
The Trojans look to bounce back after the loss with a contest against the 1-14 Creighton Bulldogs on Thursday, Oct. 5 at home.
