Lady Trojans win two

Wakefield had arguably its most successful week of the 2020 season with a couple of Lewis & Clark Conference regular season triumphs over Winside, 25-21, 25-15 and 25-14 in best of five match and Creighton, 25-21, 25-19 and 25-19 - a pair of sweeps.

On October 6, the Lady Trojans swept past Winside to improve to 5-17 as they prepare for the upcoming L&C Conference Tournament this weekend.

“We started our last home games off on the right foot, with both C team and JV winning their matches,” Wakefield coach Brittany Eisenmann said. “They led the way for our varsity team to also come away with a win. The atmosphere in the gym that night was one to remember! All our girls came out with hustle and heart and got the job done.”

Rachel Borg paced the Lady Trojan offense with 11 kills in the match, Hayden Ekberg added six.

Jordan Metzler tipped-up 11 set-assists.

Aishah Valenzuela, Borg and Metzler each recorded three ace serves.

Valenzuela also had 14 digs, Borg 10 and Katie Borg 10.

The Lady Trojans won their second straight with a second-straight sweep - this time over Creighton.

Alex Arenas had nine winners to pace Wakefield over the Lady Bulldogs, Rachel Borg contributed six.

Metzler set up the offense with 10 assists while Valenzuela, Katie Borg and Abby Heimann hit double-digits in digs with 22, 15 and 12 respectively.

Heimann also contributed seven assists.

“The girls are really starting to play as a team and that is exactly what we need to be seeing at this point in the season,” Eisenmann said. “We had a couple good wins this week that will really boost our confidence going into the conference tournament this weekend.”

Wakefield was set to play Ponca October 13 before traveling to take on Tri-County Northeast on October 15.

The conference tournament is set to get underway Saturday and will continue Tuesday, October 22.
