The Wakefield Post 81 Juniors and Seniors opened the 2021 season this past week with a home date at Eaton Field with Wayne and a road trip to Ponca.

"After last season with all of the wondering about COVID and whether we should be playing," Post 81 coach Julio Sanchez said. "It was nice to just get on the field and play."

In the game against Wayne, the Post 81 Seniors could get no offense generated and were shutout 6-0 by the Post 43 Seniors.

The Wakefield juniors did manage a win against the Post 43 Juniors with a walk-off wild pitch.

The teams battled throughout but Post 81 came through with the walk-off in the bottom of the seventh and final inning.

The Post 81 Juniors remained undefeated with a blistering win over Ponca 14-2 in a rescheduled game from a season-opening rainout.

The Trojans scored four runs in the second with two outs on the way to the seemingly easy win.

Ponca scored a run in the first and a run in the second to account for the 14-2 final.

The Seniors were in a tight game until the final inning and fell by the 7-2 final.

Matt Logue threw a gem for Ponca, allowing only four hits in the seven innings of work.

Wakefield scored early but couldn't maintain the lead as Post 81 fell by the 7-2 final score.

Post 81 was set to be back in action Tuesday in Pierce.
