Some members of Wakefield Community Schools band selling baked goods to raise funds for a trip to France.

Another edition of the Wakefield Market was held on Wednesday, July 20 in downtown Wakefield with vendors, fundraisers and performances.

"I thought we had a good turnout of customers and things for them to buy," Wakefield Progressive president, Megan Weaver said. "We had good weather, a lot of people on hand and it went very well."

One shop owner on Main Street, Sara Bebee commented about the value of getting people downtown.

"We had good foot traffic and got to see some new faces," Bebee said. "We always have our customers shop for sales-and it gets them in the store."

Adam Goos, at the Little Red Hen Theatre had a different function during the Market.

Local live entertainment has been provided for previous Markets, and the participants have performed near the theatre as Goos has been in charge of gathering the talent to perform.

Goos just completed the performance of "Shrek the Musical" at the theatre recently, and had little time to recruit performers for the event.

"I felt bad we couldn't come up with a list of performers," Goos said. "But the people watching the performances were certainly entertained."

Brooklyn Bierbower was one of the performers on the evening .

"Brooklyn did a great job," said Goos." We may have not have had many but we certainly had quality there this time."

Goos even took the mic himself.

"We really think the ability to have music at the event is helps make the market more enjoyable for the community," he said. "whether it's live or recorded. Any chance we can give our talented folks in the community a chance to shine, we'll do it."

One of the businesses on Main Street, Woven Luxe, also approves of the fact the Market brings customers to her front door.

"We had so much additional foot traffic and customers in the door," Woven Luxe owner Sara Bebee said. "

Weaver has been a supporter of the Market and, in fact, began the Market.

"I think it helps existing businesses and the businesses without a Main Street presence," Weaver said. "I feel it's been a successful venture."

Weaver is also involved with WakeFest and wanted to put out some reminders.

"We are still looking for people to sign up for spots in the BBQ cookoff, the color run, the carshow - all of it really," Weaver said. "And we need groups to enter for the parade."

WakeFest is set to go August 21 in and around Wakefield with events beginning early in the morning and the event is sponsored by the Wakefield Community Club and replaces Balloons 'N BBQ which had been the Wakefield Celbration the past couple of years.

The parade theme is around the theme of the celebration, according to Weaver.

"We are having BBQ, Cars and Bands so make a float with that in mind," she said. "Or just do what floats your boat - so to speak."
