Brett Claussen and Jamie Stark, both Plainview High alumni (Class of 2008), have released an energy drink, CraniYum, into the mass retail market, including some Plainview and area locations. CraniYum was developed over about a year, researching and sampling, with Jamie Stark’s wife, Holly, supplying the name. From their website, www.drinkcraniyum.com: Claussen and Stark have nearly a decade of experience in retail nutrition, “and as a result, we not only drink energy drinks basically every day - we have spent a ton of time talking to everyday people who also drink energy drinks frequently. What we realized is that most energy drinks on the market currently really don’t have a lot to them - just carbonation, caffeine, and flavoring (which many times are way too sweet) - and there is a huge opportunity to build a new type of drink that actually benefits the user’s mental clarity and also tastes great.” It was released on January 29 of this year, when their first shipment arrived at their Fremont warehouse. Locally, the drinks are available in Plainview at Mitch’s and at Speedee Mart; they can also be found in Osmond at their Mini Mart. Currently the drink is available in two flavors; grapefruit soda and Dr. Yum. Both flavors are carbonated. According to their website, the pair have placed CraniYum in at least 40 stores nationwide, mainly at nutrition outlets, in addition to the local placement. Stark and Claussen both seek to bring glory to Jesus in their business ventures, and have placed “John 3:16” at the bottom of each can.

On Monday, April 8th, 2024 there will be something special in the skies above Nebraska starting at 12:40 p.m. when the Earth’s moon will eclipse the sun. Though Nebraska doesn’t get to enjoy the total eclipse that it did during 2017 it will still be approximately 75% blocked during the peak of the eclipse which should take place around 1:53 p.m. Though it’s only been seven years since the total eclipse over Nebraska, the next one won’t take place across North America until August of 2045. As a reminder, staring an eclipse is dangerous to the eyes without protective equipment or specialized glasses.
